Well, I do love the beauty of oak trees but I prefer fruit trees over hardwoods because the "fruit" just keeps on giving, kinda like a residual income! I have always encourage my kids to daydream and play with ideas and goals to let their mind be free and removed from the dogma imposed by others. Society always eventually will say "hello" to inventors, creators and writers with their MONEY!
My family is essentially aqua-holics and love anything that has to do with the beach and water! We have a fascination with the power of sea water but more importantly the science of minerals and health. Seawater instantly clears up skin issues especially acne and my kids noticed this when they were younger.
Today, they hold patents in 5 countries for synthetic seawater and built a digital business, hired attorneys, filled out business licenses, created an e-commerce website and so on..... just think where that may lead too!
The key to success is knowing what is coming in the future! A few decades ago we specialized in healthcare because we saw the fast-food and chemical food industry explode which we "translated" into healthcare dollars which paid off in millions for our family! Right now I am currently focused on geriatric care because the aging population was 46.2 million in 2014! By 2060 there will be 98 million older persons, twice that of 2014!
This brings me back to you, as a virtual "student" you should focus on starting your something! I suggest you take a "required" elective over in the College of Humanities and get some ideas going! Did you know that the U.S. Department of Labor projects technology careers may grow by as much as 30% by 2022! Why not take some electives in graphic design and technology!
Multi-media hands-on understanding is far more valuable than lecture courses. If you're not in a school that has moved coursework onto digital media, the school is behind the curve not only in course work but also in leadership that is going to cause you to FAIL in our new high tech world. So make the adjustment now!
The future is summed up in two words "graphic design." It doesn't matter what profession it is from business to medicine to fashion the trend is the same and that trend is digital media, digital illustration, and portfolio development to execute ideas, solutions, and the transfer of economic wealth!
Its not just about skills anymore but its about time management, communication, organization, attention to detail and of course "natural talent" that must all come together in attention grabbing graphic design executed to perfection!
This IS the future and the money is in the market place better get translated into your head as the "money is in the digital market" and the best graphic design WINS as people click away and purchase your products!
I tell the students "get your head in the cloud" and see the shift that is coming in the IT world. Plant your "storage" computing TREE today....with your mobile optimized job postings of course!
