![]() The first time I heard the expression "politics is downstream culture" was from Mark Rodgers. I had the opportunity to meet the Wedgwood Circle Founder, Mark Rodgers. Mark Rodgers is the President and Founder of Wedgwood Circle, as well as the Principal of The Clapham Group, a creative consulting firm that works with non-profits, corporations and foundations. He is a published writer and a speaker on the topics of faith and public life, culture and caring for the least of these. His work over the years includes outreach to “culture creators,” and he has worked closely with artists from diverse fields including computer gaming, graphic novels, film and music. The Wedgwood Circle sums it up with this; "Do good while doing well. Promote the creation of good, true beautiful art in mainstream culture" I think the best culture creators are on the campus of universities across America. We must work to reignite our universities once again as the greatest institutions in America! Education changes everything, always has, always will. Newer follow uneducated people. One of my favorite politics and faith Thinkers in America is Pastor Hagee of John Hagee Ministries. As I started out to build my marriage and family, I knew I needed practical education on how to have a great marriage and raise a generation of great kids who love the LORD. I listened to Pastor Hagee every chance I had. Pastor Hagee was filling my atmosphere and thoughts, with the Word of God as my toddlers ran around and played. If I was driving those cassette tapes were playing! I am completely convinced my family is so successful today because of all that WORD that got "down-loaded" into our brains! My kids, husband and patients tell me I am more of a "preacher" more than a healthcare provider. I know its because I've memorized the teachings of some of the greatest bible-based thinkers over decades of years. I played those tapes so many times I had every word memorized and when trouble came, I'd recite some of the best preachings ever recorded. My kids and patients will testify they cannot get from the pantry to the frig, or out of my medical exam room without some kind of biblical testimony of how I have seen Jesus work miracles in every area of life! Here is how I mentored my own kids as I home-educated them K-12. I taught them to find solid role models they admired. People "already successful" in the areas they desired to become successful in and then study exactly what they did or didn't do and learn from them. Here are some very basic question all success driven students should be sure they can answer;
I teach mothers to "see" themselves as the CEO of the home. The family is the mother's ministry, business, company and eternal legacy. Work at it every day with everything you have to make sure your home is healthy, prosperous, well ran, on budget, achieving goals and above all biblically literate so everyone will finish their race in this life strong! It is beyond exciting and a supernatural blessing for me as a mother to know that after 28 years of listening to Pastor Hagee, my kids got to meet him and shake his hand in Texas. They had opportunities to worship and tour his church, as well as serve in Christians United for Israel (CUFI) with CUFI On Campus, travel to DC for national advocacy training and most importantly travel to ISRAEL with Cufi. A goal I am working on now locally in SC, is developing a proposal that seeks to establish universities "ADOPTING" Israel university departments as sister-universities. The best way to build relationships is to share information and ideas. I seek to use my own neuro-research project that I started at Coastal Carolina University to collaborative on clinical research with a biology department in Israel. My daughters were able to participate and present our Neuro research orally and poster presentations representing Coastal Carolina University at two SC State Conferences! Outstanding Huntington's Disease research under faculty guidance was a critical aspect of their medical school application. Today, Israel is leading the research in the field of neuro-science and a collaboration of science student projects would be very valuable for students and leaders in healthcare. Giving my own kids the opportunity to network academically in science, technology, and healthcare in Israel is a model for building bridges of HOPE that foster creativity as well as Incubator Startups. Networking with the university faculty who are the "constants" on every campus is the vehicle to accomplish this type of collaboration and is a strategy that re-educates a positive narrative around campus in any discipline. I believe this type of a philanthropy model is one that funds efforts to re-educate those who negatively strive and actually work to plant seeds of boycott, divestment & sanctions (BDS) on campus against Israel and throughout our nation's academic settings. We will work to change the narrative to one of a scholarship & innovation between faculty, students and Israel. The opportunity to give young students the ability to visit Israel sister-university research labs & facilities filled with positive mentors who know how to over-come adversity is a very positive vehicle to accomplish our family scholarship goals for students. |
