I think a pledge should mean something, don't you? It’s a promise you make to someone that you intend to keep. So when SC Johnson promises that their products don’t contain formaldehyde, we expect them to fulfill that promise. After all, formaldehyde is a cancer-causing chemical that doesn’t belong in household cleaning products.
That’s why we were disappointed to find Pledge® wipes contain DMDM hydantoin and quaternium-15—preservatives that release formaldehyde into products. What does that say for SC Johnson’s pledge of “no formaldehyde”? Take action! Tell SC Johnson to honor its pledge of no formaldehyde by ditching these toxic chemicals and upholding their own standards! Click here. SCJ is a company that repeatedly touts its commitment to transparency – and it’s true that they are leading the industry in ingredient disclosure because of YOU raising your voice. SCJ also touts its commitment to product safety and upholds their Greenlist™ chemical screening process as evidence of this commitment. But the criteria for this chemical screening process is kept secret. What we do know: Greenlist™ forbids formaldehyde, but apparently allows chemicals that are known to release formaldehyde. Huh? Claiming to forbid formaldehyde but allowing chemicals that knowingly release it is misleading. SC Johnson made a pledge to their customers to tell the truth. Tell them to honor it by eliminating toxic chemicals like formaldehyde releasers, and to come clean about how they define “safe”. |
