Rural Medical Care
I thought I'd take a page an introduce you to my other half! Dr. Willeford MD is someone you may meet should you ever need an evaluation for back pain. You can find him at our Coastal Carolinas Interventional Spine most days located in Supply, NC and also in the NMB South Carolina office once or twice a week!
If you're lucky you might have the opportuntiy to join him for a study in proving the existence of a Creator and when you understand there is a God then you can find out who this God is or (isn't) in one of his standing room only historical prophecy studies! He obtained his degree in physics, and started his career as a research physicist. He then went on to complete medical school, and obtained Board Certification in Anesthesiology. Dr. Willeford relocated from Sacramento, California to developed the Rural Coastal Community Brunswick Hospital Department of Anesthesia, and was the 1st Anesthesiologist in the county 1993!
Dr. Willeford worked with nurse anesthetists, and ICU nurses how to improve morbidity and mortality during surgical and hospital events. Dr. Willeford functioned as the Department Chairman of Anesthesia, as well as served as Chief of Staff. He developed In-Patient Pain Management for over a decade before he left Anesthesiology behind to specialized in out-patient Interventional Pain Management, which our rural community really needed.
Dr. Willeford founded Brunswick County's first Interventional Pain Management Facility in 2005 to address the pain management and opioid crises in our community. In 2013, he founded the county's 1st Addiction Medicine Clinic to address the epidemic. Dr. Willeford has worked to educate colleagues and mid-level providers in our area regarding the long-term consequences of misdiagnosing, and over- prescribing of narcotics with addiction consequences. Dr. Willeford leads the addiction health initiative in Brunswick County partnering with Mental Health professions, the Addiction Task Force, and the Brunswick County Government in order to utilize technology, screen for OUD in primary care and improve communications to increase access while working to limit the barriers to care in Addiction Medicine and Recovery Programs and above reduce the stigma of addiction.
