Muscle cramps is one of the most common patient complaints we here at our Interventional Pain Center. We see well over a hundred people per week and magnesium levels are an issue. Magnesium is used in over 300 metabolic reactions in the body. It is critical for bone health, blood pressure and restful sleep. Muscle strength is dependent on you having adequate blood levels.
Most people we see medically tend to be deficient in Vitamin D which requires magnesium for the vitamin D to be assimilated. One reason people tend to get deficient in magnesium is because of drinking water that has fluoride added to it. This is why when you are on-the-road make sure you ask if the water your are drinking is "filtered." Fluoride binds with magnesium creating a insoluble mineral compound that ends up deposited in the bones and can make them brittle. Coffee and alcohol can deplete magnesium as well as to much processed sugar and processed food. Commercial farming is the biggest issue because now our soil has been depleted of most minerals, especially magnesium.
The most dangerous part of being magnesium deficient is the fact that low levels can cause heart flutters or palpitations, fatigue or unusual tiredness and short term memory loss.
Keeping your magnesium at the correct levels is very easy to accomplish and blood level can be easily tested. You have 2 options to get your levels tested.Magnesium RBC is used to find out how much INTERCELLULAR magnesium is in circulation and Magnesium, Serum is used to measure the level of magnesium in the blood. I recommend you make sure you know your RBC levels. You can also supplement with magnesium in various ways or combine ALL the options below in a Self Management Home Health Care Program! 1. Topical Magnesium Lotion 2. Topical Magnesium Gel 3. Magnesium Supplementation 4.Transdermal Magnesium 5. Magnesium Baths 6. Magnesium Oil 7. Magnesium Prescription from your healthcare provider (THIS CAN BE EITHER PROFESSION STRENGTH SUPPLEMENTS OR PHARMACEUTICAL PRESCRIPTION.) |
