Almost every disease that I have worked up as an Integrative Health Care Provider has had a link to the patients GUT. I have diagnosed food allergies, irritable colon, mineral deficiency, adrenal fatigue, parasites and a host of other issues that other healthcare providers missed.
The traditional 7 minute medical appointment with pharmaceuticals as the only intervention or prevention model simply will not work for chronic diseases. Taking a complete medical history coupled which includes an extensive diet history, family history, social history and cultural history is critical to understanding the complete picture. Many clues are discovered as we listen carefully and ask micro questions, which are very specific. To prove our case we need information that only the patient can give us but we must sit down and talk with patients for at least an hour. This Health Care Model works and I have proven it in my medical practice. I get to the bottom of chronic disease and my patients are cured. Sometime is has taken a complete year to get all the testing and education accomplished but I can honestly say I have patients that have been discharged from my medical care because I have "cured them." I teach them they can come back for check-ups if they wish but they are educated and empowered to continue their preventative healthcare model at home. I call it my Self Management Home Care Program. One program of many that I like and have utilized is a inner ecology program by Donna Gates.
The program is designed to nourish, and cleanse the small intestines where nutrients are absorbed and a balance of flora can easily be disturbed by over-use of antibiotics, improper stomach acid, lack of cultured foods or even a vegan diet. The vegan diet is another blog but let me say when people stop eating all meat and dairy the pancreas stops producing high levels of enzymes. This low level of pancreatic enzymes was unexpectedly found on stool testing in my vegan patients with medical problems. I will be publishing an article on my findings in the near future but vegans need proper medical nutritional testing to keep their guts in proper working order!
Another gut program I really have great results with in my medical practice is from the scientific team from Designs For Health. I studied under Dr. Raphael Kellman, MD regarding Obesity, Autoimmune Disease and Depressioin. The Far Reach of the microbiology of your gut is very critical to your health.
It is time for a shift in our perception of bacteria from pathogen and enemy to our most important health ally represents the greatest turnaround in science and medicine in 150 years. The gut bacteria ARE our greatest ally. The scientific literature on the microbiome has recently been sky rocketing with more than 90% of roughly 4,000 articles indexed by PubMed on the topic being published within the past 5 years!
There is NO SUCH THING as good or bad microbes or bugs in your gut. It is how they work together that is critical. Antibiotics can help or hurt us as it depends on what is going on with each individual. GMO's are something that can hurt the bacteria and taking certain medications such as antacids can hurt the bacteria. If we take care of our bacteria it will take care of us! Our immune system is in our gut! You must "prune" your gut garden daily! Gut complaints are the number one reason people seek healthcare.
Here is a products I typically recommend to get patients started on a healthy GI Program while we figure out what is going on with them physically and mentally.
Digestzymes 90 capsules, are digestive enzymes with betaine HCL to support optimal digestion of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The use of digestzymes before meals may be helpful when patients experience gas and bloating after eating, constipation, or a feeling or fullness after eating only a small quantity of food.
